Porsche 911

The new Porsche 911 Turbo reaches a top speed up to 200 mph and was launched in Watkins Glen, NY. The significance of introducing it in Watkins, NY is because the first Porsche 911 turbo was produced there. The 2007 model sports a  480-horsepower, twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter boxer engine with the world’s first gasoline-engine application of variable turbine geometry (VTG), a redesigned all-wheel-drive system, and smooth and unique styling.

The reason for the increased performance is due to the VTG technology which has adjustable guide blades, which can vary in angle to most effectively guide engine exhaust flow onto the turbocharger’s impeller wheel. In addition to the power increase, extensive use of aluminum means the 2007 911 Turbo weighs 11 pounds less than its predecessor, making an impressive power-to-weight ratio of 7.28 pounds per horsepower. Furthermore, a functional button in the optional Sport Chrono Package allows a 10-second, mid-rpm-range ‘overboost’, which temporarily increases turbo boost. There are two transmission options —a 6-speed manual or Porsche's advanced 5-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission which goes zero to 60 in 3.4, wile the manual is a hair behind at 3.7 seconds. Therefore, for the first time in a Porsche, acceleration is actually quicker with the automatic than with the manual transmission.

911 styling is evident with some small noticeble differences such as the front has larger air intakes widely spaced and deep-set fog lights, and new LED indicators situated in the lateral air inlets. In back are the unique rear spoiler and two square exhaust outlets, as opposed to the four pipes coming out of the standard 911. The lateral air inlets behind the doors have been lessened, and together with the new air ducts, make a more efficient supply of cooling air to the intercoolers.

The new 2007 911 Turbo is scheduled to be available in summer of 2007 ( base price $122,900)

The 2008 GT2 will be even quicker and lighter than the lightening fast 911 Turbo, but unlike that all-wheel-drive model, it will power only the rear wheels. The GT2's twin-turbocharged flat six should churn more than 530 hp, which translates to speeds in excess of 200 mph. The GT2 arrives in late 2007.

The quickest and the most expensive super car ( approx. $484,000) is the Porsche Carrera GT 2007. Amongst the super cars, its unparalleled features are its 5.7-liter, 605-horsepower V10 engine, and its monocoque chassis with Porsche-patented engine and transmission mounts cleared of carbon-reinforced plastic and the foremost use of a ceramic composite clutch.

To lower the car's center of gravity, the clutch diameter was belittled. Its race-bred suspension and aerodynamic package plies secure and unchanging move at speeds of up to 205 mph (330 km/h). The Carrera GT sports the panoptic use of lightweight materials, such as magnesium for its significant wheels and the frames of its exceptional sport seats. Porsche claims that the Carrera GT can skip from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds.Porsche Carrera GT ‘s chassis and suspension is based on the engineering of the Porsche GT1, the automobile that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 1998
